Uusia lahjoja - New gifts
Lately I've gotten more gifts :) Unfortunately there aren't pics of all of them, as my computer broke and I lost the pics with it :( I'm still hoping the pics might be salvaged - if they are, I'll post my earlier treasures as well.
Vastikään sain muovisen viuhkan, jonka pistin jo palasiksi:
I recently got a plastic fan, that I already picked apart:
Samassa paketissa tuli iso satsi pinssejä koteloissaan:
The same package contained these:
Sain myös lisää Tigerin pikareita:
I also got more of these cups:
Paljon kiitoksia lahjottajille <3
Many thanks to you all <3

Se viimonen tuoli vielä - That last chair
The pic I promised of the chair that was still setting last night. The fabric ones look better, eventhough I like this faux leather a lot :) It's just less forgiving than a fabric that stretches a bit. And those round armrests don't really work here...

Tuoleja perkele! - Chairs damn it!
Kuten edellisessä postauksessa kerroin, nojatuolin askartelu ei millään halunnut luonnistua. Turhauduin suunnattomasti, sillä seurauksella, että seuraavat pari päivää kului tiukasti nojatuolien ja kiroilun merkeissä. Päätin etten pentele lopeta, ennen kuin saisin aikaan tuolin, johon olisin tyytyväinen. FB-ryhmän kautta sain oivallisen linkin: https://picasaweb.google.com/ muumitalo/ NojatuoliOhjeArmchairDIY
Tuumasta toimeen siis - tuolien runko on paksusta pahvista:
As I told you in my earlier post, I've been having trouble with making arm chairs. I was so frustrated, that the following couple of days were spent almost exclusively fiddling with armchairs - and swearing. I was determined not to let it go until I had made an armchair I was happy with. I got this excellent link via the Finnish FB-group: https://picasaweb.google.com/ muumitalo/ NojatuoliOhjeArmchairDIY
So this is what I've been doing of late. The frame is made of thick cardboard:
Kirppareilta löytyi aikaa sitten tällasta kaunista kangasta, jonka arvelin olevan täydellistä huonekaluihin:
Ages ago I found this beautiful fabric at a fleamarket and thought it would be perfect for furniture:
Yritin kovasti saada kankaan tottelemaan, mutta se rispaantuu kovin herkästi. Täytynee jättää tää kangas odottamaan sitä, että mulla ois varaa hommata Fray Stayta, josko se auttais...
I tried very hard to get the fabric to work, but it frays very easily. It seems (no pun intended) that I'll have to set this fabric aside until I can afford to buy Fray Stay, which I suppose might help...
Vasemmalla viime postauksen tuoli, keskellä täysin epäonnistunut yritys yllämainitulla kankaalla ja oikealla kirpparilta löytynyt nojatuoli:
Far left one of the chairs from my previous posting, in the middle the utterly failed attempt to use the fabric mentioned above and far right a chair I found at the fleamarket:
Ja tässä viime päivien tuotokseni. Selvisi, että kuten FB-ryhmässä neuvottiin, hiukan venyvä kangas on helpoin työstettävä tällasessa projektissa. Eka vasemmalta meni ikävä kyllä vähän vinoon. Tuo lilasta sametista tehty luomus on aika söpö - yritin tehdä siihen rahinkin, mutta se oli ihan karmee... yritän myöhemmin uudemman kerran.Todella tyytyväinen oon oikeestaan tohon mustaan ja rivin viimeiseen vihreään tuoliin. Hip hei, onnistuin sittenkin!
Here's a batch of better ones that I've made during the last couple of days. It turns out that, as I was told in the FB-group, fabric that stretches a bit is easiest to work with in a project like this. The first chair from the left is unfortunately a bit lopsided. The one made of lilac velvet is pretty cute - I tried to make a foot stool for it, but it was a disaster... will try again later. But I'm actually really pleased with the black chair and especially the green one on the far left. Hurray, I managed it at last! I'm still pondering whether to put legs on them - I fear they might be too high with legs.
One more hair is still unfinished or rather I'm waiting for the glue to dry. Will post a pic when it's ready.

Luomisen tuskaa - Birthing pains
Viime aikoina taistoni tuulimyllyjä vastaan on kohdistunut nojatuolin tekemiseen.
Lately the windmills I've been storming have actually been armchairs. For some reason I thought making such would be pretty straightforward.... it wasn't, for me at least. I've spent days planning, scetching and crafting, but I seem unable to produce neat, good-looking armchairs.
The first prototype was so hideous, it went in the trash unphotographed. Here are versions 2 (on the right) and three:
Mä en kertakaikkiaan saa aikaan tuoleja, joissa ei olis miljoona irvistelevää saumaa! Nämä tein kahdella eri tekniikalla, mut sama saumaongelma on molemmissa. Järki on mennä tätä kummastellessa!
I am apparently incapable of making upholstered furniture that doesn't have a gazillion ugly seams showing! I made these two chairs with different techniques, but the same problem with the seams persists. Does someone want to tell my how on earth you manage to make chairs and couches with neat and discreet seams? When I glue the fabric to the frame and then fold it over the edges, the folded bits of fabric on the flip side end up bunched (even if the fabric isn't thick at all) AND if I try to cut off the exess fabsic, the edges of saud fabric end up showing here and there on the finished chair. I'm going nuts with this!
Näihin käytetty "kangas" onneks kesti liimaa hyvin, mutta millä te kiinnitätte avalliset kankaat runkoihin? Mun yritelmissäni (liimana Tacky Glue) liima imeytyy kankaaseen ja näyttää kuiviessaan aivan karmeelta??
The "fabric" used for these happily withstood glue well, but how do you fasten regular fabric to chair frames? When I try (using Tacky Glue) the glue seeps into and through the fabric and looks dreadful and splotchy when it dries??

Ette ikinä arvaa... - You'll never guess...
Juu, pahoin pelkään että lisää taikaliemiaineksia on tullut tehtyä ;) Noihin on niin kiva keksiä sisältöä :D Lempparini ovat nuo selkeesti pimeyden taikuuteen tarkoitetut säilötyt kallot :O Vihreä litku on ihan vaan Fairya.
Se vaan harmittaa, etten oo keksinyt miten tehdä purnukoihin etiketit :/ Omilla kätösillä en saa aikaan tarpeeksi pientä tekstiä, joka olisi vielä luettavissakin. Printteri löytyy kyllä, mutta väripatruunat on niin järjettömän kalliita, ettei mulla varmaan koskaan oo semmosia rahoja *huoh*
Yes, I'm afraid I've made more potions ingredients ;) It's such fun to think of things to put in the jars :D My favorite is the large jar of pickled skulls, clearly meant for dark magic :O The green gunk is jut Fairy dishwashing liquid.
The only thing that bugs me, is that I haven't figured out how to make labels for the jars :/ I can't seem to produce text by hand that is small enough yet legible. I do have a printer, but color cartridges are so terrible expensive, that with my budget they are pretty unattainable *sigh*

Lisää litkuja - Lots of liquids
Erilaisia taikaliemipulloja syntyy jatkuvalla syötöllä - pieni teekannukin mahtui mukaan. Löysin allaolevat mitkä lie helmihatut, joista tuli hyvät pullonkaulat ja sekös inspiroi!
I keep making fiddly little potion bottles now - and a little tea pot. I found those bead caos or whatever they are, realized they make good bottle necks and was inspired!

Kirppiksillä pitkästä aikaa - A long overdue trip to the fleamarkets
It's been ages since I had a chance to go to the fleamarkets, it really is great fun! I didn't find a ton of stuff, but a few good pieces :) Three skeletons that are about 1:12 in size, all for a euro; a plastic goblet for free; the writing desk and bits and bobs were part of a bag of trinkets that cost 3 euros:
Pieni kirja, lastenvaunut, koru, sanko ja muut pikkuosat olivat nekin siinä 3 euron pussissa. Muovipumpputsydeemi tas olla euron pussissa. Lakkapullo euron ja kuvasta unohtuneet spray maalit (valkoinen ja kulta) olivat euron kipale. Kangasrullat 20 senttiä kappale. Lisäks ostin kolme kirjaa 2 eurolla kappale. Pikaliima olikin ihan tavan kaupasta:
The little book, bracelet, prams, bucket and other trinkets were frpm the same 3 euro bag as the stuff in the first pic. The plastic water pump was in a 1 euro bag. A pot of varnish 1 euroa (I also bought white and gold spraypaint at 1 euro each). The rolls of fabric were 20 cents a piece. I also bought 3 books for 2 euros each. The super glue was from the hardware store:
