Variksen sulkia - Crow feathers

Joku onneton varis on kohdannut loppunsa tuossa meidän metsässä, sulkia oli pöllynyt ympäriinsä. Muutamana päivänä kattelin niitä ohikulkiessani ja tänään päätin ottaa ne talteen. Yöpakkaset on olleet -20 astetta ja sulat olivat maanneet lumessa monta päivää, joten arvelin että niistä lienee hävinneet öttiäiset ja pöpöt, mutta varmuuden vuoksi pesin sulat vielä kiehuvassa Fairy-vedessä ja nyt ne ovat kuivumassa. Enköhän mä noista jotain keksi!

Some unfortunate crow had met its end in our forest and feathers lay around a small clearing. I'd walked past them for a few days and finally decided to pick them up today. Since night temperatures have been around -20 C and the feathers had lain in the snow for several days, I figured most likely the cold had gotten rid of any fleas etc. but to be sure I washed the feathers in boiling water with dish washing liquid and now I've put them up to dry. I figure I'll find some use for them!

Ampiaisenpesä - Wasps nest

Löysin mökkini tuulikaapin nurkasta pikkuruisen hylätyn ampiaisenpesän, läpimitta noin 2 cm. Talteenhan se piti ottaa, nyt täytyy keksiä jostain spraylakkaa, josko sitä sais vahvistettua vähän - sit sitä vois käyttää jossain nukkisprojektissa :)

I found a tiny abandoned wasps nest, about 2 cm across. Naturally I had to take it - now I have to get some spray varnish to strengthen it so I can use it in a dollhouse project :)
