Piipahdin kirpparilla - Popped in at the fleamarket

Oon ollut äiti jelppimässä ja piipahdin samalla kyläkirppiksellä, josta löytyi tällainen saalis, koko satsi (kankaat mukaanlukien) viidellä eurolla!

I've been at mom's helping her out and took the opportunity to pop in at the village fleamarket. Here's what I found, the entire haul (including the fabrics) for 5 euros!

Nämä ovat Muumi-aiheisen teatterilavan osia. Mulla on tää ennestään kokonaisena lainamuksujen leikkejä varten, mutta otin nämä osat kun ilmasiksi sai, sillä niistä tulee hyvää askartelumatskua. Helpompi leikata kovaakin pahvia askarteluveitsellä!

These are parts to a Moomin theater set. I have one of these for the kids' games but since these parts were free, I grabbed them for building materials. It's easier to cut cardboard, even of this hard quality, with a crafts knife!

Rookin takka - The Rook's fireplace

Oon viivytellyt Rookin takan koristelun kanssa, kun mikään ei ole tuntunut oikealta. Nyt lopulta otin itseäni niskasta ja päätin tehdä sen valmiiksi, tuli mitä tuli. Ensi töikseni leikkelin Greenleafin vinyylilaatoista tällaisen marmorisen kehyksen ja muovailin tuohon alas "puskurin" vanhasta rannekorusta:

I've been putting off decorating the Rook's fireplace because nothing felt right for the frame. Finally I decided to just do it, come what may. First I cut bits from Greenleaf's vinyl tiles to make a frame around the aperture and formed an old bracelet into a fender:

Sitten rupesin liimaamaan pari kumikäärmettä kehyksen ympärille:

Then I started gluing a couple of rubber snakes around the frame:

Lisäsin vähän korunosia, pääkallohelmiä sun muuta ja iskin takan sisään LED-tuikun, jonka vielä aion naamioida "haloilla":

I added some jewellery findings, skull beads, etc. and put a LED flame inside the fireplace - I still need to dress it with logs:

Tässä se on paikoillaan Rookissa. En oo oikein tyytyväinen, siitä tuli aika kökkö :/

Downsia tuhoamassa - Demolishing the Downs

Oon yrittänyt purkaa Dobby Downsia, tän enempää en onnistunut. Onko kellään vinkkiä miten nuo tapetinjämät saisi pois? Edellinen omistaja on siis tapetoinut seinät ja lattiat, lieneekö käyttänyt kontaktiliimaa kun eivät millään meinaa irota. Luulen että toi runko on liimattu kokoon sillä samalla, sillä nämä osat ei irtoa toisistaan. Ideoita?

I've been trying to take Dobby Downs apart, this is all I managed. Does anyone have ideas as to how I might be able to remove the remnants of wallpapering? The previous owner had wallpapered the walls and floors using some kind of really strong glue and they won't come off. I think they've used the same glue on the house because these bits don't come apart. Ideas?

These projects that are under construction are in the living room as well. More can be found in my bedroom :D I wish I had a separate dollhouse room!

Loistava kirja - A great book

Olen pitkään halunnut tätä kirjaa ja vihdoin löytyi yksi joka oli tarpeeksi halpa mun kukkarolleni. Tämä on aivan loistava kirja, hauskasti kirjotettu ja täynnä upeita, selkeitä ohjeita - ja mikä parasta, ohjeita joissa hyödynnetään kierrätystavaraa eikä niihin tarvita kummosia työkaluja! Suosittelen lämpimästi!

I've long wanted this book and finally found a copy cheap enough for my wallet. This is a fabulous book, well written and funny and full of gorgeous, easily understood tutorials - and best of all, the tutorials utilize recycled bits and bobs that are easily to hand and they don't require specialized tools! I warmly recommend it!

Uusia aarteita - New treasures

Mullahan oli vastikään synttärit ja viikonloppuna Heli tuli kylään - otetaan pian uusiksi! - ja sain ihania lahjoja! Posti toi Helin nimessä uusia asukkeja, nimittäin kauan haaveilamani Ronin (jonka mukana tuli taikasauva, sammutin - deluminator, mikäköhän se oli suomeksi? - ja Luihuisen riipus) sekä Hedwigin häkissään! Hedwigin mukana tuli myös kirjanen, jossa on Hedwig-aiheisia tarroja. Niistä ainakin pari päätyy tauluiksi :)

I just had a birthday and last weekend Heli came over for a couple of days - we'll do it again soon! - and gave me lovely presents! The postman brought, on her behalf, the Ron Weasley figure (complete with wand, deluminator and Slytherin's locket) I've dreamt of for a while now and the equally coveted Hedwig in a cage! Hedwig came with a booklet of stickers - at least a couple of them will end up as framed pictures :)

Heli toi minulle myös menoran ja upean pöllön, joka päätyy Hedwig Houseen. Äidiltä sain mm. tuon mäyräkoiran pikkuisen ruokakuppinsa kera :) Kiitos molemmille!!!

Heli brought me a Menorah and a gorgeous owl, which I'll place in Hedwig House. Mom gave me the key ring with the little Dachshund complete with a tiny bowl :) Thanks to both!!!

Tuija kävi puolestani Biltemassa hakemassa 10 kiloa sytykkeitä- suurkiitos avusta, harmittaa ettei Hämeenlinnassa ole Biltemaa! Tuijalta sain myös loistokapineen, nimittäin pienen viilan, juuri sellasta oon kaivannutkin :)

Tuija went to Biltema on my behalf (THANK YOU - so inconvenient that there isn't one here) and bought 10 kgs of these fire starter sticks, they're perect for miniature crafts! She also gave me something I really needed, an excellent small file :)

Hedwig House suunnitteilla - Planning Hedwig House

Olen tässä katsellut ja mittaillut noita kirpparilta löytämiäni nukkekotiosia ja mietin josko niistä tosiaan pykäisi Hedwig House-nimisen talon (Ginevra Cottage sai alkuperäisen nimensä takaisin, se sopii sille paremmin). Jotenkin se tuntuu turhan fiiniltä Griseldalle, mutta saakon täti sen. Ainahan hää voi muuttaa jos joskus tulevaisuudessa löytyy joku hälle sopivampi :)

I've been measuring the dollhouse parts I found at the fleamarket and I think I will build a house, named Hedwig House (Ginevra Cottage got it's original name back, it suits it better), around them. It seems a bit fancy for Griselda, but she'll get it. She can always move if she finds something more appropriate one day :)

Nuo kaksi ovellista etupaneelia on varmasti eri taloista, mutta tuumasin että siitä voisi tulla kiva näin - tuo toinen ovi vois olla keittiön oma sisäänkäynti :)

The two front panels that have doors are probably from separate houses, but I figure it might look nice like this, with the side door as a kitchen entrance :)

Uusi Dobby Downs - A new Dobby Downs

Tässä uusi Dobby Downs, joka sekin tosiaan löytyi vitosella ja olikin lopulta ilmainen - pakkohan se oli ottaa, varsinkin kun itselläni oli muksuna samantyylinen Lundby ja olin kerennyt haaveilla, että olisi hauskaa tehdä sellasesta jokin vähän epä-Lundbymainen projekti.

Here's the new Dobby Downs, it too cost 5 euros and ended up free of charge - so I had to have it, particularly since I've had a similar Lundby as a kid and had been thinking that it'd be fun to turn a Lundby into a little bit of an un-Lundbyish project.

Edellinen omistaja oli myös tehnyt uuden katon, ilmeisesti laminaatista. Ensin ajattelin ottavani sen pois, mutta kaavailen tuohon olkikattoa (tekoturkiksesta kenties), joten ehkä se voi jäädä siihen alle korkeutta antamaan. Kahtellaan.

The former owner had also fitted a new roof on, from floring I think. At first I thought I'd take it off, but I'm planning a thatched roof (perhaps out of faux fur), so maybe I'll leave it to give the thatching some height. We'll see.

Aloitin jo tapettien poiston, paikoin alkuperäiset pinnat kurkkivat esiin. Tästä tulee useamman kotintontun yhteinen koti. Visioin rappusten alle komeron, jossa asuu talon vanhin kotitonttu, joka ei perusta moderneista hömpötyksistä vaan asuu vaatimattomasti rappusten alla, koska sitä hirvittää sellainen luksus kuin oma talo tontuille. Ja kuten vanhus narisevalla äänellä sanoo "jos porraskomero kelpasi nuorelle Harry Potterille, kelpaa se totta vie vanhalle kotitontullekin". Lisäten julkeudestaan kauhistuneena: "ei niin että minä vertaisin itseäni suureen Harry Potteriin!!"

I've started to remove the wallpaper, the original surfaces are showing through here and there. This will be the home of several house elves. I have a vision of a cupboard under the stairs, where the eldest house elf lives, as he doesn't hold with the new fangled ideas of elven rights, let alone something as extravagant as a whole house for house elves. As he says in his quivering voice, "if a cupboard under the stairs was good enough for a young Harry Potter, it's certainly good enough for an old house elf". Adding, shocked by his own audacity: "not that I'm compairing myself to the great Harry Potter!!!"

Keittiön ovi puuttuu, mutta eipä siihen ovea kaivatakaan.

The kitchen door is missing but that's just as well, I think it's better without it.

Äidin Muumitalo - My mom's Moomin House

Äiti täytti juuri 62 vuotta ja on pitkään haaveillut Muumitalosta. Mä ajattelin rakentaa sen itse alusta saakka, mutta sitten törmäsin tähän, joka on pääpiirteiltään samanlainen ja samankokoinen kuin jo kyhäämäni pahviversio, paitsi ettei se ole pyöreä. Siitä tulee kuitenkin ihan kelpo Muumitalo äidille, jolla on osa asukkaista jo oottelemassa uutta kotiaan, sillä oon keräillyt niitä pikkuhiljaa kirppareilta. Eikä se maksanut kuin vitosen ja lopulta sainkin sen ilmaiseksi :)

My mom just turned 62 and has dreamt of a Moomin House for quite a while. My plan was to build it from scratch but then I ran into this one, which is basically the same model and size as the cardboard template I had made, except that it isn't round. But it'll make a fine Moomin House all the same. Mom has several of the Moomins ready and waiting for their new house - I've bought them little by little from fleamarkets. Plus, this house only cost 5 euros and I ended up getting it for free :)

Tästä ehkä vähän hahmottaa miten iso tuo on - metri korkeutta ja muut mitat noin 40 x 40 cm. Toiottavasti äidillä on tilaa sille :D

This might give you an idea of how large it is - 1 meter in height and the other measurements are about 40 x 40 cm. Hope mom has room for it :D
